BS7870 Concentric Service Cable

BS7870 Concentric Service Cable

A BS7870 concentric service cable is a UK standard for aluminium or copper cables used by Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to provide the final, buried electrical connection to domestic and commercial properties from the low-voltage national grid.

These cables come in two main types: straight (or combined) concentric (CNE), where the neutral and earth are combined, and split concentric (SNE), where they are separate. They are designed for direct burial or installation in ducts and also serve for sub-main distribution and in high-rise buildings.

Installation can be directly into the ground or within ducts, and for applications such as sub-mains distribution and street lighting.
Cables are available with either aluminium or copper conductors, depending on the specific type of cable.

Installation can be direct burial in free-draining soil, or in air.
Not for Overhead Use: These cables are not suitable for overhead power supply lines.

Standards: The cables conform to the requirements of the BS7870 standard, which applies to polymeric insulated cables for distribution and generation utilities with rated voltages up to 19/33 kV.
