Defence Standard 61-12 Part 5 LSZH
Description
These defence Standard cables were initially manufactured for military uses to Defence Standard 61/12 Part 4 and 5. However, they are now more commonly used for high-density industrial applications such as aircraft, process control systems, computers, and data processors. These flexible multi-core cables are specifically engineered for high-density wiring between components and within instruments and electronic equipment, with a voltage rating of 440 Volts.
The construction features flexible Class 5 tinned annealed copper conductors with a 16/0.2mm stranding configuration for Part 5 cables. The cable utilizes Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) insulation, a non-hygroscopic binder tape, and a tinned copper wire braid (TCWB) screen or armour to protect against electrical interference. It is manufactured generally to Ministry of Defence Standard DEF61-12 LSF Part 5, meeting flame propagation standard BS4066 PT1 and IEC 332 PT1, ensuring minimal smoke density and zero corrosive gas emission in the event of a fire.
These cables are designed to withstand contamination from fuel and mineral-based fluids, making them ideal for challenging industrial environments. For installation, the cable has a wide operational temperature range of -55°C to +70°C, or -20°C to +70°C depending on specific low-temperature thresholds, The cable is fairly flexible with a minimum bending radius of 10 times the overall diameter. They are highly suited for fixed installations in high-density environments where space is limited and maximum fire safety compliance is necessary.
