Defence Standard 61-12 Part 6 Equipment Wire - 0.22mm² to 1mm²
Description
Def Stan 61-12 Part 6 equipment wires are single-core, unsheathed hookup wires built with flexible stranded tinned annealed copper conductors and a robust layer of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) insulation. The range is specified across three configurations: Type 1 with a voltage rating of 750V AC, Type 2 rated for 1000V AC, and Type 3 rated for 1500V AC. Operating temperatures range from -15°C to +85°C for Types 1 and 2, and from -20°C to +85°C for Type 3, with a minimum bending radius of 7.5 x overall diameter for fixed installations. This cable range complies strictly with Ministry of Defence Standard DEF 61-12 Part 6, BS 4808, and standard specifications for flame propagation.
Initially manufactured for military use, these equipment wires are now more commonly utilized for industrial applications requiring high-intensity wiring inside electronic machinery, instruments, and equipment enclosures. They are standard for complex configurations inside aircraft, computers, data processors, control panels etc. Tinned copper conductors ensure the wiring can withstand contamination from fuels and mineral-based fluids, making them well suited for dense internal circuitry and instrumentation racks.
Def Stan 61-12 Part 6 wires are suitable for fixed internal installations where they are fully enclosed inside a chassis, machine casing, control cubicle, or dedicated internal trunking.
