BS6387 Cable

BS6387 Cable

BS6387 is a British Standard that specifies the performance requirements for cables that must maintain circuit integrity during fire conditions up to the rated period (30 minutes for standard, 120 minutes for enhanced).

These cables are designed to be used in fire detection, alarm, and emergency lighting systems, as well as other critical circuits where maintaining functionality during a fire is crucial. They are tested to withstand fire, fire with water spray, and fire with mechanical shock, ensuring they continue to operate for a specified duration under these conditions.

Designed for use in low rise buildings (standard) and multi-storey or high-rise tower blocks (enhanced), in applications ranging from security lighting to fire detection and alarm circuits.

Fire detection and alarm systems: BS6387 cables are used to ensure that fire alarms and detection systems remain operational during a fire, allowing for timely evacuation and emergency response.
Emergency lighting: These cables are vital for maintaining emergency lighting circuits, providing illumination for safe escape routes during a fire.
Voice alarm systems: BS6387 cables are often used in voice alarm systems to ensure clear communication during emergencies.
Other critical systems: They may also be used in other systems where maintaining circuit integrity during a fire is essential, such as smoke exhaust systems and sprinkler pumps.
High-occupancy buildings: Due to their enhanced fire performance, BS6387 cables are particularly suitable for use in multi-story buildings, hospitals, shopping centers, and other high-occupancy areas.
